The 2024 English Schools Track and Field Championships were held on the 12th and 13th July at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
After two fantastic days, it’s been great to reflect on how well our Athleticademix athletes did whilst representing their respective counties and regions. I was in attendance on the Friday and it was a real pleasure to meet and catch up with so many of our athletes and parents.
The level of talent on display from Junior, Intermediate and Senior competitors was so impressive, and it’s safe to say the future of athletics in this country is looking bright!
How Our Athletes Fared
It was another incredibly successful weekend for U20 Team GB Hurdler, Noah Hanson, who broke the English Schools record in the Senior Boys 110m hurdles to take 1st place with a time of 13.64! It’s another highlight of what’s been an outstanding year for the Newham & Essex Beagles talent. Noah will be heading to the University of Houston later this summer and continuing under the guidance of one of the greatest athletes of all time, Carl Lewis.
South Yorkshire’s Lilia Harris and Archie Budding (West Yorkshire) both pushed hard in the 1500m for Senior Girls and Senior Boys, respectively.
As did Charlotte Dillon (Durham), Georgia Bell (Cumbria) and Lucy Jones (Cambridgeshire) in the Senior Girls 3,000m. It was Lucy’s final race before she jets off to Eastern Michigan University in August.
Luke Parker (South Yorkshire) ran very well in the Senior Boys 800m final, finishing 4th in what was a tightly contested race. The Rotherham AC athlete will be starting his next chapter with Lamar University in Texas in the coming weeks.
It was Silver for Isaac Henderson (Gloucestershire) in the 3,000m Boys Final – a brilliant achievement in his final English Schools appearance before he begins life at University of Massachusetts Lowell.
In the 400m Hurdles, Athleticademix’s Ava Freeman and Oliver Parker both came away with excellent results! Oliver held his nerve and took 1st place in the Senior Boys final – crossing the line in 52.19! Oliver has gone from strength to strength following his selection for England at the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad & Tobago last year.
Zac Williams narrowly missed out on the Final, but took huge positives from the heat and his involvement in the 400-Relay for Hampshire ahead of his upcoming move to the US and Ranger College.
Ava secured a huge new PB time of 1:00.64 in the Senior Girls final. The Birchfield Harriers star, running on her home track, finished third in a strong line-up.
Nia Forbes-Agyepong (Middlesex) placed fourth in the Senior Girls 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.41. And Mack Ritson (Avon) pushed hard in the Senior Boys 200m heats.
Multi-event athlete, Esme Pounder (North Yorkshire) jumped 5.24m in the Long Jump (Senior Girls) after reaching 5479 points in the Heptathlon earlier this season.
.
A massive congratulations to all athletes involved in this year’s English Schools! We look forward to returning next year to see some new and familiar faces in action!
