What is A&T and how does it work?
Acro and Tumble meets are structured around 6 main events, with each event made up of multiple heats. Teams of up to 28 athletes will compete head to head, earning points for difficulty, execution and synchronisation, with a total possible score of 300 points.
Here’s a quick overview of each event (as outlined by the NCATA)
- Compulsory: Each team performs identical, predetermined skills in acro, pyramid, toss and tumbling.
- Acro: Teams perform lifts and holds that demonstrate strength, balance, and precision.
- Pyramid: Groups build complex, multi-layered structures with synchronised elements.
- Toss: Athletes perform flipping and twisting skills launched by their teammates.
- Tumbling: Includes synchronised and individual passes.
- Team: A large choreographed routine combining skills from the previous events.

The Growth of the Sport:
Since earning NCAA Emerging Sport status, A&T has seen incredible expansion. More than 50 programmes will compete in Acrobatics and Tumble during the 2026 season, spanning across all NCAA divisions and athletic conferences.
This growth reflects a strong commitment to expanding opportunities for female athletes and providing a new pathway for gymnasts, cheerleaders, acrobats, and tumblers to compete at the collegiate level.
Opportunities for International Athletes:
For international athletes with backgrounds in gymnastics, cheer or tumbling, Acro & Tumble opens the door to US college scholarships and the opportunity to train and compete across the US.
